Metro Theatre is one of Vancouver’s oldest community theatres, providing upbeat shows with local artists. While most of their actors are amateurs, that doesn’t stop the shows from having plenty of energy and vive.

This weekend, Metro Theatre opens an 18th century classic – She Stoops to Conquer, based on Oliver Goldsmith’s masterpiece and newly adapted by Joan Bryans.

One of the 18th century’s most enduring comedies, She Stoops to Conquer takes a look at the behavior and marital expectations of the upper classes in England at the time.  Marlow and Kate, members of the upper class, are to be married.  Marlow, a painfully shy modest fellow around young fashionable women reveals himself as a flirtatious dandy around serving girls. So Kate dons the nonthreatening guise of a barmaid, stooping in social status to conquer his heart.

She Stoops to Conquer stars Deborah Vieyra as Kate Hardcastle and Alexander Lowe as Charles Marlow.

It is directed by Joan Bryans  assisted by Frances Herzer, produced by Alison Schamberger and stage managed by Nancy Caldwell.

She Stoops to Conquer runs February 24th – March 17th, 2018 as part of Metro Theatre’s 55th Season. Tickets for purchase here.
