Firehall Arts Centre revives “The Pipeline Project”

Last year, I was lucky enough to see The Pipeline Project at Gateway Theatre when it consistently sold out in their studio theatre. I was blown away by the creativity of the work and the message it presented. Now, The Pipeline Project is back!

The Firehall Arts Centre is proud to present The Pipeline Project created by ITSAZOO Productions and Savage Society Theatre from Wednesday January 10th to Saturday January 20th.

The Pipeline Project is a provocative and personal account of the ongoing cultural battles over pipelines in BC. Three actor writers – two Indigenous and one white – come together to create a play about the political conflicts surrounding Canada’s oil industry, confronting their own prejudices and hypocrisies along the way.

The second act is a “Talk Forward”. That’s an interesting format of a talk-back, where speakers discuss the relevance of the play with the actors and audience, and everyone discusses together how we can create a better future. Basically, it’s what should happen after every good piece of political theatre.

Each night a different guest speaker will respond to the play and then participate in a facilitated conversation with the audience. Featured speakers include KAI NAGATA (Dogwood Initiative), AMIE WOLF, PHD (Aboriginal University Bridging Program at Vancouver Island University), and JENNY UECHI (Vancouver Observer).

The Pipeline Project runs January 10th-20th at the Firehall Arts Centre. Tickets and more information available here.
